The day I decided to document the Extinction Rebellion protests in London, my goal was to present a respectful perspective on the organization's objectives and the events. With the utilization of a modified camera, the full-color infrared photos I captured were not merely an exercise in style but a deliberate and meaningful choice.
Red, a prominent color for Extinction Rebellion (XR), holds significance beyond its association with the organization. Red blood serves as a universal warning sign our bodies use to visualize issues and is also recognized as an attention-seeking color in various cultures. I made the deliberate decision to utilize red to depict trees, rebels, police, commuters, food, and objects, all affected by the same problem.
This choice stems from the fact that infrared rays of light equally impact clothes, dyed hair, fabrics, and more, rendering them the same color. If the Rebellion aims to foster self-awareness about the climate crisis, these images can be seen as a metaphor for a planet in distress.
